The Belvoir Bowhunters enjoyed yet another excellent Wild Game Dinner on Saturday March 28th, 2009! The event was fortunate to have Mr. Bob Duncan (profile) from the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) as an honored guest. During the dinner, Bob shared an excellent 4-minute video portraying the VDGIF's history from 1916 to 2009 - pictures that capture the essence of VDGIF's mission and dedication to the conservation of Virginia's Wildlife and Natural Resources. Bob had VERY GOOD things to say about the club, but also about Ft. Belvoir and its hunting program. All involved can be proud that the program is held in such high esteem at the State level. As you know, the success of Hunters for the Hungry (H4H) in providing nourishing venison to those in need in Virginia is dependent on two factors: the generosity of hunters who donate deer they've harvested and the availability of funding to offset the costs of cutting and packaging the donated deer by cooperating meat processors. Historically, it's been the latter factor that limited the amount of venison available to feed the hungry. This year, H4H registered their charity in time to be included in the annual Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). They are listed in the CFC Catalog of Caring by their non-profit corporate name, Virginia Hunters Who Care, Inc. Their 5-digit CFC code is 47077. If you're a federal employee, please consider including H4H among the charities you pledge to support in 2009. Each $30-$35 you contribute funds the processing cost of a donated deer. |
