At last month’s membership meeting, the club voted to contribute our Christmas Fund savings and other donations to the Fisher House Foundation. The decision was made due to some changes in the Operation Sugar Plum program run by Ft Belvoir’s Army Community Services, which would have lessened the assistance our contribution would have made to Ft Belvoir soldier families in need. This year we hope to make a contribution similar in its generosity to those in past years to the Fisher House being constructed in support of the new DeWitt Army Hospital. Event Results | Since 1996 the Belvoir Bowhunters have raised more than $30,000 in support of Hunters for the Hungry by sponsoring a combined archery competition, novelty shoots and a raffle. After the competition, a series of novelty shoots and a raffle was held. By the day’s end, the Belvoir Bowhunters again raised money presented to Hunters for the Hungry represented by Arrington.
The H4H shoot is a magnificent event. At the end, the Belvoir Bowhunters LARGEST Charity donation was made to the Hunters for the Hungry Program Director. This year the donation was $3700. Although a significant amount came from the raffle, we really all need to recognize individuals who also donated - we have Joel Lutkenhouse, Stan Parmentier, Charlie Shupienus, and John Cooper (who donated his winnings from Jug Shoot), as well as additional anonymous cash donations in the jug. That is significant. Our Club should be incredibly proud of this type of generosity, as it is a testament to the Belvoir Bowhunter sprit of charity and volunteerism.
